Dapagliflozin, sold under the brand name Forxiga, is a prescription medication used to treat type 2 diabetes, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease (CKD). It's a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that works by preventing the kidneys from reabsorbing glucose (blood sugar) back into the blood, which lowers blood sugar levels. For type 2 diabetes, it's used in combination with diet and exercise.
